"I don't need your tiny protection! I control my own destiny."
―Stephen Lee, rejecting Montana's offer

Stephen Lee is the owner of Chi Peso Trattoria in Scarface - The World is Yours.

Background[]

Stephen Lee appears to have come to the United States from China, judging from his appearance and name, although he doesn't have much of an accent. He has himself for a strong, no-nonsense and independent bistro owner at Chi Peso Trattoria and is not above killing gangsters who disrespect him or try to make moves against his establishment. However, he also seems to care little for the quality of the food his business makes or his employees, frequently making degrading comments towards both.

By the time Tony Montana sets his eyes on South Beach, he targets the Trattoria as one of the places to smuggle in drugs. Stephen Lee refuses Montana's offer in a second and explains to him that he can take care of himself, even ironically saying that he killed "a mob boss yesterday just because he was so fucking fat". Just then, Gomez Cartel attacks the Trattoria and Montana decides to help out Stephen in defending the establishment. During this mission, the players need to make sure the Gomez gang doesn't kill Stephen.

After "proving himself" to Lee and giving him a couple of threats, he decides to go work for Antonio Montana and sells him his business, who can then use it as a drug front.

Trivia[]

  • In one of the conversations with Tony, due to Stephen being unfamiliar with Spanish, he mistakes "que pasa" with "pasta", and "yeyo" with "yo-yos", which angered Tony to the point of threatening him with death, and calling him "Kim Jong", an anachronistic reference to the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-il (in reality, Kim Il-Sung was the supreme leader at the time of the game's setting). Stephen eventually complies in his own way, telling Tony that they'll only be selling "yo-yos" in the restaurant from then on and no more "pasta". Out of annoyance, Tony does not reply.
  • Stephen Lee wears an unique Chinese-styled poncho, known as a hanfu, over a shirt with a black tie.
  • Him and Ana Yamada are both Chinese fronts owners in the game and the only Chinese people in the game in general.
  • His negligence of the restaurant's food quality is evident by his quotes and also by the cook he employs, Alonso, who can be seen picking his nose and putting his mucus into the dishes in the kitchen.
